Jilbabs
The jilbab also spelt as jilbab originates from the word jilaabah and is a plural of this word. The jilbab is basically a sort of a gown that covers the body from the neck down. The jilbab should be in a loose fit and in full length from neck to floor. The jilbab has developed in terms of design and general out look over the years. People sometimes refer to the jilbab as the abaya, but the abaya is more commonly referred to black gowns that are worn for the same purpose as jilbabs by Muslim women.
The jilbab does not cover certain parts of the body namely, the head, the hands, feet and in some cases the neck. The jilbab is therefore worn in conjunction with a wrap around scarf. The wrap around scarf covers the area from the neck upwards. Jilbabs are available for children as well as adults. Complete suits matching jilbabs, scarves, gloves and shoes are now available from some jilbab fashion retailers.
A large amount of modern Muslim women design and make their own jilbabs because of the shortage in the market for a large variety of sizes and patterns. These home made jilbabs sometimes lack the perfect sizing but serve the purpose. It is now possible to find a large variety of jilbabs at muslimbase’s jilbab shop. The variety of jilbab being stocked is now increasing and will continue to do so depending on the demand of the people.
